MEDITATIONS ON EXPERIENCES
Airport Children
August 1984
So many do I see, wondering about airports and planes
Connecting themselves between far distant reigns
Traveling between parents who are traveling in different lanes
There you see them so sweet, oh but what will be the effect of their pains.
A new phenomenon, an old problem, airport children, divorced parents
Oh how will they be, spending time growing up in airports and planes?
Stewardesses quick to come, serving their ever needs, substitute parents
To airport children wondering about being connected to the fast lanes.

Trivia Pursuit
February 1985
Sweeping through the country’s free moments
Is the pursuit of trivia in games
Something that characterizes us
This age, these few years.
Why now are you so interesting?
When in ages past you were so boring
Are we awakening to the power of knowing?
And to the pride of showing.
Is trivia pursuit not so trivial after all
As it gives power and pride to one’s soul?
Reaching Recklessly, Reflecting Reverently
April 1985
Continuously reaching, looking for greater pleasure
Constantly towards intensifying our worth and measure
Hoping for new friendships, too artificial in meaning
Hurrying through our interactions void of feeling
Moving always recklessly in pursuit of greater satisfaction
Making up versions of happiness without realization
Wanting one after another several conquests
Working deathly for successive accomplishments.
Look backward, to find what’s important!
Love, how I’ve not had you enough
God, how I’ve not been close enough
Christ, how I’ve not imitated you enough
Mother, Father, how I’ve not appreciated you enough
Son, how I’ve not been with you enough
Wife, how I’ve not kept your love enough
People, us, lets’ stop to think what’s really important!
Sport
May 1985
Squeezed into a single moment or an inning
And the lengthy days of a sailor’s transcontinental race
Also the instantaneous contact between the racquet and the ball it’s hitting
As well as the minutes of thinking about a bid for game in spades
Is the concentration, the joy, the escape of sport.
Caught in the swimming of legs and arms through the water
In the running of steps after steps after steps
In the flying of the ball through the air
In the explosion of pens for strikes
Is the grandeur, the excitement, the uniqueness of sport.
And as we strive to improve our performances
Against those previous and current intolerances
And as we require greater and greater control
Over our statistics and our score
In that which is sport.
We separate ourselves
From our existences
Of painful experiences
In having to provide for ourselves
In that which is not sport.
Radiant Sun
May 1986
Radiant sun rising over and over
New life each day you create
A fresh beginning you give us forever
Bringing life, song, growth and light
With overwhelming influence and power.
Each day a new one for us as for you
Each day we can also say forget the previous
Each day rules to follow as nature must obey you
Each day like you we must relate with love to others
Each day a chance to learn as we understand you.
Yesterday’s Youth
May 1987
Yesterday I looked back and saw youth fleeing
Faded away without notice until yesterday
I passed over the years not realizing
Youth forever does not stay.
How glad I am for my youth
For all its energy, expectations, and experiences
Today I go forward knowing the truth
Youth’s chapter serves well life’s needs.
A Phone Ring
April 1989
Quiet is this house,
things in order.
How comfortable and nice
knowing where they are
Suddenly the phone rings
breaking into this state.
Sounds of uncertainties,
what will be the take?
Who is at the other end,
about to enter these surroundings?
Fortune, sorrow, foe, or friend,
invitations, curses, and changes.
Manage the best we can,
this house within its lot.
Knowing just a phone ring
away, might change its look.
